Brief & Approach
The goal was to create a piece to be used on Rock the Vote social media to celebrate Disability Pride Month (July). It was important to include diverse young people in the final piece. My approach included:
Research and make a list of current events, movements, and issues relevant to the disability community
Research and compile prominent disability history
Sketch three to five potential ideas from research
Present sketches to RtV and move forward with the most popular piece
The National Disability Rights Network requested 15 graphics to educate their followers about the 2020 election and the rights of disabled voters. My approach included:
Research past NDRN graphics
Research voting rights using their information
Sketch three to five ideas for each graphic
Present rough colored drawings for approval before finalizing
The Pieces: Rock the Vote
Two pieces were chosen by the team, both of which celebrated disabled people in different ways.
The first celebrates the disabled people doing important work online to continue the fight for justice. It acknowledges that even before most work went remote in response to COVID-19, disabled people were connecting, organizing, and growing online.
The second celebrates disabled ancestors and leaders today fighting for equal rights from elections, education, and everyday access. Pictured from top left:

The Pieces: National Disability Rights Network
A selection of the 15 graphics designed to run from September 2020 until the day of the 2020 US election. Each graphic used a similar color scheme to create a sense of continuity. Graphics featured strong contrasting colors, bold lettering, and heavy linework.
